Who Do We Serve

Whatever your needs – underwater performance, cinematic/theatrical costuming, parties, events, or bathtub lounging – Finfolk Productions can help! We work with both individuals and large companies to provide tails from a personal to a professional level, and everywhere in between.

What Is A Mermaid Tail?

A Finfolk Productions mermaid tail is a prosthetic costume piece, made to your measurements and custom design specifications. We like to categorize tails as “functional artwork.” Each piece is unique, handcrafted, wearable, and most importantly – SWIMMABLE. We use the highest quality material on the special effects market (primarily Dragonskin silicone and its components) to create lifelike tails. Each tail is built around the best quality, carbon blade monofins offered by Finis, making them more than just a costume. Our tails are here to make dreams come true and imaginations flourish – whether you’re an aquarium seeking new and exciting performances, a company utilizing mermaids in events or promotions, a cinematic or theatrical venture in need of realistic costume pieces, or an individual who’s ready to make a splash in your own back yard pool, we’re excited to create the tail of your dreams.

How Heavy Are Tails? Will They Make Me Sink?

Our tails typically weigh between 15-20 pounds. The silicone is neutrally buoyant, making them near weightless in the water. The heaviest part of the tail is the fluke (the main bottom fin) because it contains your carbon monofin blade, which propels you through the water like a real fin or flipper. Like anything, practice makes perfect! Remember that swimming is an inherently dangerous activity, and you should never do anything you believe is above your skill level, or in a hazardous swimming location. When in doubt, start in the shallow end. Soon you'll be swimming with ease!

Do Tails Require Special Care?

Tails should be rinsed and dried regularly, and occasionally bathed with baking soda to prevent mold or mildew. Our tails are designed to withstand use. The longevity of your tail is entirely dependent upon it's care. Tails are more likely to be damaged by dry activities than water activities, as the soft, skin like silicone and scales can scrape against concrete or other rough surfaces. All tails come with an extensive and specific set of care instructions.
